A look back: 23 June 2012

Frank Stippler, Phoenix Racing and the VLN Endurance Championship has formed a successful combination for years now. The experienced Nürburgring driver returns to the Green Hell at the wheel of the Phoenix Racing Audi for the fourth round of the VLN season.

Frank Stippler has driven countless laps of the Nürburgring as a Nordschleife specialist. Six years ago, we celebrated a particularly important success with Stippi at the 43rd Adenauer ADAC Rundstrecken-Trophy race.

Double triumph

Driving an Audi R8 LMS, Stippler put in a fantastic performance to take pole position in qualifying. Together with teammate Marc Basseng, Stippler then put together an almost flawless race to win by 46.890 seconds. After victory at the Nürburgring 24 Hours, this marked the pair’s second win in succession for Phoenix – and also the first win for an Audi in that season’s VLN.

The victorious weekend was rounded off by a third place for the sister car. Christopher Haase and Luca Ludwig were in hot pursuit of their teammates for much of the race, but two yellow-flag periods stopped the Phoenix pairing from finishing higher than third. Haase and Ludwig crossed the line just 1.581 seconds behind the second-place car.
