VLN: Podium place in VLN season finale

The race team based in Meuspath had tackled the 42. DMV Münsterlandpokal with a new driver line-up. Regular driver Frank Stippler was supported by Christian Mamerow who celebrated his comeback for Phoenix following a longer break. Dutchman Robin Frijns made his debut for Phoenix in endurance racing.

In Qualifying, Frijns achieved the fastest lap of 7m 59.893s – the only time below eight minutes posted by any entrant.

After the start of the 4-hour race, the number 15 Audi R8 LMS from pole position initially maintained the lead but lost it as early as on lap one in rainy conditions. Within the first half hour, Phoenix Racing dropped to position four.

Toward the end of the race, the Phoenix Audi was running in position three and still trying to attack the Mercedes in second place. In spite of traffic, Frijns set another time below eight minutes. Ultimately, on crossing the finish line, the tally reflected position three, which meant the third VLN podium finish in 2017.

With that, the 2017 racing season in Europe has ended for Phoenix Racing.
