Lee/Thong on podium in Japan

Things already went well for the Lee/Thong duo in both qualifying sessions at the beginning of the event at Fuji, Japan. In the Audi R8 LMS of Phoenix Racing, they marked second place in the first qualifying session for race one and in the second one for race two set the third-fastest lap.

Then, right at the beginning of race one, misfortune struck: Several vehicles had contact in turn one and Lee was forced to take a detour across the run-off area. The #5 Audi was damaged in the incident and required an extra pit stop. As a result of the time lost, more than position 17 was not possible.

Race two then went better for Lee/Thong. Whereas victory went to Mercedes early, the Phoenix Audi fought a gripping duel with a Ferrari on the final laps. Following several overtaking maneuvers, Phoenix ultimately had to admit defeat and came third.

The second Phoenix Audi with Alex Yoong and Alex Au at the wheel retired in race one and took ninth place in race two.
