In a wet and rainy qualifying for the first race, the correct tire choice played an important role. Yoong used his experience perfectly and secured third place on the grid. Early in the race, he took the lead on the damp track and controlled the field. In the end the former Formula 1 driver crossed the finish line to win by more than five seconds.
“After a difficult start to the season, we wanted to show what we are capable of,” commented Yoong after the race. “The car was perfect and Phoenix Racing Asia did a fantastic job.” With fifth place in the second race, Yoong scored further important points. In the standings he moves up from seventh to fourth.
Third across the line in both races was Audi TEDA Racing Team’s Shaun Thong, also run by Phoenix Racing Asia.
Their team mate Andrew Kim in the Audi R8 LMS running under the banner of Audi Hong Kong took fourth place in the amateur classification and eleventh overall in the first race, in the second race he did not make the finish.
