TCR Asia Series: Difficult weekend in Bangsaen

At the TCR Asia Series’ first visit to the narrow street circuit of the tourist resort of Bangsaen, Jasper Thong in the Audi RS 3 LMS TCR fielded under Audi Hong Kong’s entry in round one came fourth, just barely missing a podium place. However, he was disqualified after the race due to insufficient ride height.

The best Audi driver in the race that was significantly shortened following a start crash was his older brother and teammate, Shaun Thong, in position six. Having started from the second row on the grid, Shaun Thong’s race was not an easy one either: in the battle for third place, he was pushed into the track barrier and lost a few positions.

In race two, Shaun Thong took sixth place again. 17-year-old Jasper Thong was the race leader, but was forced into the barriers under braking by points leader Lai Wee Sing and classified in position ten.

The next race weekend of the TCR Asia Series will be in Shanghai from August 25 to 27.
